The summer is for fun in the sun, relaxation, and enjoying time with friends and family. However in many cities across the country violence rates rise during the warmer months including sexual assaults let us remember to keep a watchful eye out for one another. College sexual assault may be influenced greatly by alcohol consumption usually presented to minors at parties and between trusted friends/acquaintances. The issue is not what the victim did, or was wearing, or any behavior they may have exhibited. The issue is taking advantage of someone that is trying to have a fun evening and destroying their sense of trust and freedom of enjoyment. It is everyone's right to enjoy life to the fullest no one has the right to destroy anyone's happiness due to their own selfish needs. As we move forward into the end of summer and beginning of fall we have to focus on building a sense of community. No matter where you live, what college you attend it is your duty to look after one another. Think about how easy life would be if we would share kindness and not hatred, a smile instead of frown. It is true that one act of kindness can influence so many even an entire generation. We are in the process of planning a film, yet we are in need of donations for film equipment and production. Our film will explore the concept of rape culture and the aftermath of trauma victims looking for justice. It is how we view survivors of sexual assault that directly links back to our behaviors and beliefs of sexual assault that contribute to rape culture.
